Mechanics of Materials is the origin of the fields of materials, civil, and mechanical engineering. The aim of this course is to encourage students to think logically, to analyse/solve the real engineering problems, and to understand the mechanics for deformable objects.
The course will introduce the response (such as stress, strain, deformation, displacement, and stored strain energy) of a given structure (such as bar or shaft) under different loads (such as tension, compression, torsion, shear, and moment).
In the end of this course, students are expected to obtain the abilities to design the materials and to solve the basic authentic engineering problems.
