The main concept of OpenCourseWare (OCW) is to openly share knowledge. OCW provides solely learning resources and knowledge. Learners are to set their target and decide their way of learning.

2. Why do school promote OCW?

Open knowledge and give back to society. Break the high walls of knowledge and the fence of university to make every learner have equal and free access to high-quality course materials and convey the knowledge continuously.

3. Why do every department promote OCW?

Why do every department promote OCW?
OCW shares high-quality teaching materials and content from every department to the public to increase the attractiveness of enrollment. Besides, the opening of basic knowledge from every department helps departments and teachers of other major to plan and arrange the advanced courses and bring new ideas to the school (new teaching methods, cross-disciplinary cooperation, etc.).

4. What’s the benefit of OCW for students and self-learners?

OCW allows educators, students, and self-learners to target their individual needs and cognitive styles as a use or reuse of teaching, learning, and research. For students who want to take the courses, they can understand the learning content in advance to arrange and plan their learning schedule. They can also cross-reference from other courses to help clarify unclear concepts and participate in additional learning. For those students and self-learners who have already taken the courses, they can review the courses again or change the bad impression of the course before.

5. What’s the benefit of OCW for teachers?

OCW allows educators, students, and self-learners to target their individual needs and cognitive styles as a use or reuse of teaching, learning, and research. For teachers, OCW not only allows them to concentrate on academics and teaching but also publish high-quality course materials. New teachers can also use it as a reference for lesson preparation and teaching.

6. How to reference NYCU OCW materials?

All of the course materials within the website are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Taiwan (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 TW) license.
Users can reproduce, distribute, transmit, and modify the video under Creative Commons regulations for non-commercial use. After modified the video, users can only distribute the derivative works under Creative Commons regulations or other similar regulations and must recognize author’s name in the manner specified by the author.
