The NYCU OCW provides and self-learning pathway. Open courses try to follow real courses provided at the university, video taping real course lectures. However, no record of learning progress is taken (such as test, homework, reports, ex.). Additionally, the OCW is not recognized by the Taiwanese Educational Bureau, thus we are unable to provide any credits or certification.
NYCU OCW platform wishes to follow the model of an orthodox course, following with the idea of openness of the OCW, providing the complete course content including syllabus, schedule, handout, and lecture video. According to video courses and handout courses, we will provide course lecture video and handouts.
The OCW platform is release according to “Terms of Creative Commons”. Students and self-learners can use the NYCU OCW platform without registration and limit. However, users should follow the rules such as “no business activity is allowed”, “sharing with the same manner”, “citation is required”.
Course resources are provided through course video or handout. Courses providing only handouts also provide basic information (including semester, credit, syllabus, schedule of courses), no lecture videos are provided. Video courses provide basic information, lecture videos are provided. Additional courses may also provided handout and references for download and learning.
Due to property rights, we are unable to provide class handouts for download. Only video contents are provided, please take notes on your own account.
Due to course planning our OCW platform currently provides class handouts, and has no plans in taping course lectures at the moment.
Course lecture videos are all video taping of actual courses, course tapings are all double checked with professors then provided on the OCW platform. Certain classes were not taped due to course exams, however all videos are confirmed before uploading.
Unlike formal courses in colleges, OCW provides solely learning resources and knowledge. Learners are to set their target and decide their way of learning, which is entirely different from distance courses, online courses, or teach by correspondence.
The general campus platform (e.g. E3, Moodle, Blackboard) can only be used by students who took the course and campus IP, therefore sometimes it is not very cautious about intellectual property rights. However, OCW opens the course materials in NYCU to everyone for free, so it is important to clarify the intellectual property rights. Sometimes it is necessary to obtain authorizations from multiple parties such as teachers, booksellers, and related resources.
The recommended courses from departments are preferred for shooting, but due to manpower issues, only about 10 courses can be recorded per semester. However, the courses that students and self-learners suggest will become the basis for planning and we will shoot and product as much as possible.
